Gene specialises in commercial laws and has acquired vast experiences in foreign investment work, mergers and acquisitions, domestic and overseas listing, restructuring and acquisitions involving foreign investors as well as state-owned enterprises in China. He has received accolades from foreign clients investing in various industries in China, ranging from airport, education, e-commerce, healthcare, pharmaceutical, port, public utilities, real estate, and shipbuilding industries.

1. 1. The listing of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd., a US$717 Million initial public offering on the Singapore Stock Exchange, with a global offering. Work included designing the structure, advising on regulatory issues and negotiating investment documents. This is the largest IPO of a Chinese business on the Singapore Stock Exchange in recent years.
2. 2. Preparing for listing of a Chinese bio-medical company, including designing the structure, advising on regulatory issues.
3. 3. Representing Yongcheng Coal Mine of Henan in its joint venture project involving approximately RMB 100 Million with a global leading coal manufacturing company.
4. 4. Representing Changi International Airports Pte. Ltd in its acquisition of a stake in Nanjing Airport, and thereafter a joint venture involving more than RMB 1 billion.
5. 5. Representing a major Hong Kong logistic corporation with a total investment of RMB 600 Million in its joint venture project with a major Chinese port.
6. 6. Representing a leading Australian bio-pharmacy company with a total investment of RMB 100 Million on its acquisition of a Chinese player in the same industry.
7. 7. Advising the share capital subscription of Jiangsu Xinrong Shipyard Co., Ltd. by Jiangsu Changrong Steel Co., Ltd. and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) (A share listing code: 600150), with the total investment amount of this project is over USD 140 million.

Advising a global leading welding manufacturer, a company listed in London Stock Exchange, in its acquisition of welding and cutting manufactories in China, including conducting comprehensive legal due diligence, advising on the transactions, drafting legal documents, and clearing PRC anti-trust review.
9. 9. Advising a premier global leader in internationally-branded serviced apartment management in its serviced apartment projects in China.
10. 10. Representing a well-known Singapore-based private equity firm in its cooperation with Nanjing Hi-Tech. Venture Capital for the incorporation of Nanjing Growth Fund. This project is milestone cooperation between China and Singapore with the concern and support from Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Jiangsu Provincial Government, Nanjing Municipal Committee and Nanjing Municipal Government and will be dedicated to accelerate the economy development of Nanjing Municipality, Jiangsu Province and Yangtze River Delta Area.
11. 11. Representing a Singapore leading water treatment company with a total investment of RMB 120 Million on its proposed "Transfer-Operation-Transfer" investment in the same industry.
12. 12. Representing a Singapore listed company in its acquisition of a number of dental clinics and dental laboratories in China.
13. 13. Providing retaining legal advisory services to Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. for its operation and investment projects in China.

Before joining Shanghai Bao Rui Law Firm, Gene worked for King & Wood PRC Lawyers and later, Rodyk & Davidson LLP.

Educational background

Gene graduated from the China University of Political Science and Law. He continued with his studies at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands and was awarded Master Degree in international business law and Master Degree in international law respectively.
